Review: The Kiss Thief by LJ Shen
You know how there are books that are promoted like crazy? The ones that everyone talks about like they are the the greatest, most perfectly crafted stories of this lifetime? And then you get said story on your Kindle, finish it and think really? That's it? Yeahhhhhh, well The Kiss Thief is NOT a let down. Heck to the no. LJ Shen legit wrote one of the most perfectly crafted stories in the history of time. It's been quite a while since I've lost sleep for a book. #noregrets
Story Line: Francesca is the daughter of a very, very powerful man in Chicago. She is promised to another powerful man's son - Angelo. These two haven't even kissed, however there is mutual attraction, so trust me when I say you will be rooting for these two. Enter Wolfe. Scratch that, enter SENATOR Wolfe Keaton. A masquerade ball changes fate, lines are crossed and the life that had been so intricately painted for Francesca is no longer crystal clear. I won't tell you who this beauty ends up with. No, I'll let you figure that out on your own. But what I will say is this - one man is exactly as he seems and the other? Well the other is quite the surprise. This story has as many jaw dropping moments as it does steamy, angsty ones. Francesca is described as probably the most stunningly beautiful woman on the planet. And her soul is just as gorgeous. She's a genuinely good person - a person who you will cry with, laugh with, and marvel at her strength over and over again. And as for her happily ever after? Will she get it? I can say with absolutely certainty - YES. Her journey to achieving true happiness and love? That's what broke my heart. But her hero? He's the hero above all others. Their love story has set the bar incredibly high for the rest of my 2019 reads.
Interaction: Francesca is young. She's just 19 years old with her whole life ahead of her. She has two men in her life - her childhood sweetheart and the man who stole her fate. The way she interacts with each man is completely different than the other. With Angelo, she is sugary sweet, innocent and pure. With Wolfe she is sarcastic, witty and downright fierce. The person Francesca grow to become throughout the duration of this book is someone I admire with my entire being. She may be young, but she fought for every single freedom and respect she could. I adore her willpower and her vibrancy. And that guy she ends up with? His character? Every single moment my eyes spent reading about him? He's EVERYTHING.
Laundry: There is SO MUCH I want to say in this section. Y'all have no idea. I need a support group. And before you jump to conclusions, the laundry is good. It's fantastic. But it's also life altering. Earth shattering. And even thought provoking. The chemistry and attraction between these characters is like nothing I have read before. I don't think I've ever read a book where the naughty parts are what shook my soul - but in the very best way. I know I'm being vague here, but please have a little faith in me and just pick up this book and find out for yourself.
Depth: Chicago mobsters, powerful leaders and incredible women. That's what makes this book EVERYTHING. Francesca isn't the only woman in this book that you will be in awe of. For me, there were 3 women that made The Kiss Thief a top 5 favorite read of all time. Each woman has a back story that is heart wrenching. And each woman has a success story to give you hope and all the warm and fuzzies. I said this before, but it's worth repeating - Francesca's love story is not an easy one. Her character grows so dang much and in the end - she is by far the strongest heroine I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. Kick off your 2019 with the best. Pick up The Kiss Thief when it releases on January 9th. I bet you finish it within 12 hours like I did.
